Trailer Trad Living: Mother's Rugby Polishing Its Act

My old club, Mother's Rugby, is off to a flying start this spring. I'm excited about their new, professionally produced recruiting videos. Hopefully, these will really aid in getting the word out about the amazing direction that the club is going in. Plainly, they don't need a lot of help recruiting additional great players, but more on that later.

The apostrophe is misused in "Mother's." Guess not a lot of English majors on the team.

Nope. Not a lot of English majors. A number of pre-med/pre-law ("what's the difference?") majors though. Even an economics major or two with which to burden the world! Ha.

As to whether or not the apostrophe is correct in 'Mother's, it is. Here is how it goes:
The Club's (un)official name is Mother's Rugby, in honor of George Washington's mother Mary for whom the university is named. However, it is not incorrect to exclaim "Let's go Mother's (pronounced Mothers)" while cheering at a game. --The meaning of this grammatical quirk is shrouded in mystery!

These are the opinions of the grammatically deficient editor and do not represent the views of MOTHER'S Rugby.

That may shed some light on the questionable grammar. Perhaps in error, I thought the name was shorthand for mother******s, which would make "mothers" (versus the possessive "mother's") the correct grammatical usage.
