It's Memorial Day Weekend and will soon be time for church. I've selected what's going to go on my back for the 8:15 service where I sit in back of the balcony. All of the church's city leaders, politicians, lawyers and the rest wear the usual navy suit, white shirt and tie that they wear during the week.
I think that I'll wear something like this...

Damn, that's what I was going to wear tomorrow!
Me too.
Daisy Buchanan would surely approve...and then some.
You may have out-dandied Jim Dandy.
I hope you went with the B. Altman repp tie...
Those shoes remind me of cheerleaders...but, then again, most things remind me of cheerleaders.
Mssrs. Hale and Sunflower,
I enjoyed breaking out the dress whites and I trust that you did too!
Jay,
What do you think of the new 'The Great Gatsby' trailer?
Anon. 10:30,
That's high praise!
Mr. Beebe,
I did go with that navy repp and I've taken quite a liking to it. Thanks.
Mr. Dandy,
I'll be sure not to wear them when visiting Brooklyn.
Leonardo DiCaprio does not make for a good Gatsby.
Where in the hell is Bucky Buford?! Someone should check McSorley's.
Also be on alert for hipsters when visiting Brooklyn. Distinct possibility that they would relieve you of your retro bike and turn it into a fixie.
This post needs shuttlecock.
For crying out loud, Mr. Trad, don't you have any vintage ties with birdies embroidered thereon? How about threadbare Trafalgar braces? If not, get yee to the tag sales this weekend!
BTW, keeping those saddle shoes out of Brooklyn (and away from Mr. Dandy) is probably a good idea.
FYI those shoes would not go well with peg leg jeans and a flannel shirt when you visit Brooklyn.
Amory,
Before I saw the trailer, I mistakenly thought that Tobey Maguire was Jay because of his strange resemblance to young F. Scott (check it out).
Monsignor, Your Excellency,
I didn't know what a 'fixie' was until I consulted The Urban Dictionary. -Funny! That's basically a beach bike where I come from.
Co-worker,
Those ARE Trafalgar braces and the sailboats are quite up to the task, thank you very much.
Williamsburg Hipster,
I walk around with a tricorn hat extolling all to "Hear Ye, Hear Ye!" because I am a Colonial Williamsburg hipster.
I know those are Trafalgar braces, but they are sans shuttlecock. How often do you sail?
Everyone from BK knows that it's called "Billyburg" nowadays. Jeez, where were you raised, Fauquier County?
By the way, has anyone seen Jim? Not that handsome lawyer fella, the other one. The last time he checked-in, his email only said "shuttlecock."
Jim Dandy sold me a defective Doug Clark & the Hot Nuts cassette tape a few weeks ago.
Co-worker,
I've not sailed since I left Maryland. -Would like to but I don't have the time or money. Hey,
I yam what I yam.
Officer,
"Have I seen Jim Dandy? Hmm...Oh yes, elderly chap. Gray beard.. pointy hat...Ain't seen him in six months..."
You are mistaken -- Jim Dandy has red hair, wears a three piece suit and a top hat.
Uses an ivory cigarette holder also. Saw him a few weeks ago at the Union League Club drinking a mint julep as I recall.
I saw Jim Dandy a few weeks ago. Traded him some Sun Ra records and two bottles of Pisco for a 1st Edition of "Confederacy of Dunces."
Fine use of the obscure 'Lord of the Rings' quote, Mr. Trad - but, seriously, have seen Jim Dandy and my brand new tin of shuttlecocks? The bastard left only a damaged NRBQ album and a rusty old giant can of corn in his wake. He was mumbling something about beans, horses, and a "minx" named Myrna Minkoff.
Mssrs. Dilettante, Robichaux, McManus and Anon 8:21,
Mr. Dandy certainly gets around, doesn't he? I was puzzled at how he accomplishes this until, one day, I saw him exiting a Pullman car directing the porter on where to stow his Louis Vuitton luggage that was piled high on a cart.
Jim Dandy and a three-legged dog walk into a bar. The dog blurts out "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."
Jim Dandy is unreliable...but quite funny and, generally speaking, an extremely generous host.
Shuttlecock.
Claire, you ignorant slut.
I shot a game of pool with Jim Dandy the other night down in the Bowery. Interestingly, he was wearing a TrailerTrad t-shirt.
Saw Jim Dandy at the baccarat table the other night. That is one helluva handlebar mustache!
